Cozy Glam Cabin | ORC | Week Seven

What a week! I spent days trying to refinish a mantle and it really went nowhere, very frustrating. So much so I don't even want to talk about it anymore...

BUT when I finally gave up I went on FB marketplace and within 20 hours a mantle that measured perfectly popped up and I snapped it right up. Well not perfectly. I had to trim off the outer edges because I wanted the mantle to frame an existing bookshelf. I have ordered some support hooks, sand paper, and paint which will be arriving tomorrow and then I'll finish up this room in a jiffy!

Pictured is the new mantle being held up with rope.

I picked up a yo yo quilt from an estate sale too! It is so pretty! The colors are perfect with the upholstered closet doors...but you'll have to wait until next week to see the two together, sorry.

The other part of the room I finished up this week was the ceiling! I put up some star decals and it is so cabin cozy! The star detail was something I debated for a really long time...just ask my mom! I couldn't decide between gold or white. The white would bring out the other white accents in the room like the bedding and the rug but the gold would be shimmery and pair with the pineapples in the Milton and King wallpaper (my ORC partner). I really went back and forth and finally after 2 weeks of deliberation I ended up getting both. I love love love how they compliment the room!

The other big project of the week was getting my gallery wall up on the built in cabinets. I wanted a spot for my son to display his art and included a few meaningful pieces to spark fond memories.

-The dino prints because he loves dinos.

-Vintage map of the land his great great grandfather owned.

-A crewel piece of a brother and sister shoveling snow from my hometown in Canada. I thrifted this several years ago and on the back there is an inscription that dates it to 1948- it was a Christmas gift to someone named Bill.

-A print of a few landmarks from Ottawa.

-A Canada pennant from the 1920's.

-and a bunch of greenery for fun.

Finally the last thing that I will be sharing before the big reveal is that I finally got up the courage to install my sconces...I was so scared because I really didn't want to mess them up since they were being installed on the wallpaper. If you look closely you will see they are not centered but that is fine with me because it was important to me that they were installed on a stud. The back plate has four holes and two go into the studs and then the other two have EZ drywall screws. My step dad Bobby is a genius at basically everything (you can ask him anything and he knows the answer- definitely my call a friend on who wants to be a millionaire) and he taught me that 90% of the time the drywall screws that come with anything you want to hang on the wall are crap...you have to get the EZ hooks.

The sconces are so beautiful! They have a dimmer and just complete the bedroom space- so so cozy! I can't wait to show you the whole room- like I am sooooo excited!

Okay, that is it! Next week is the big reveal!

The biggest thank you to the One Room Challenge team and to Better Homes and Gardens ! My kids room really needed some love and now with the challenge almost over I can't believe it was the way it was for so long.

Don't forget to check out the other participants this week!
